Nicolaus Copernicus: 3 Interesting Facts

After creating Galileo’s 3 Interesting Facts illustration last month, it felt right to follow that up with Copernicus. Here, illustrated, are three interesting facts about this revolutionary scientist.

  1. Before Copernicus’ HELIOCENTRIC model, most people believed the Earth was the center of the universe, and that it did not move.
  2. The Catholic Church declared support for heliocentrism as heresy, but Copernicus himself did not get punished. Decades later, Galileo, who supported his theory, would not be so lucky.
  3. He went to different universities, studying astronomy, mathematics, law, and ancient Greek, among others, but he never earned a degree.
